Over the first few weeks of league I have noticed a common question being asked, “Where do I put the disc into play from?”

The answer can be loosely divided into two categories: Putting the disc into play after a pull (Last Week) and Putting a disc into play after a turnover (This Week).

There are some important definitions:
Field of Play: The rectangular area bounded by the sidelines and the back endzone lines
Playing Field Proper: The field of play excluding the endzones
Brick Mark: Center of the field 18 meters from the endzone of the receiving team

Putting a disc into play after a turnover

  1. If the turnover occurs on the Playing Field Proper, the disc is put into play where the disc came to rest.
  2. If the disc is intercepted on the Playing Field Proper, the disc is put into play where the interception happened.
  3. If the turnover or interception happens in an endzone, the disc may be put into play from the front of the endzone inline with where the disc came to rest (or was intercepted). A player may choose to play the disc from within the endzone, however once a pivot foot is established the player may not move to the front of the endzone.
  4. If the disc lands in the Playing Field Proper and rolls out of bounds, the disc is put into play at the point it crossed the sideline.
  5. If the disc crosses a sideline while in the air and lands out of bounds, the disc is put into play at the point it crossed the sideline.
    1. If the disc crosses a sideline while in the air and is touched by a defensive player and then lands out of bounds, the disc is put into play at the sideline nearest to where the defensive player made contact with the disc.
